I am pleased to say Latoya did my hair for 12 years. Once, at about the 8 year point, I made a suggestion. The next week I was back, and admitted she was the hair care professional, and I would trust her training and years of experience. This is how a professional relationship works best. Communicate early and often.
Highly recommended!
Latoya is straightforward during this discussion. That is a huge part of the skill of a stylist. Will your current length work with what you're looking for? Texture, color, face shape, cowlicks, condition of your hair now - and whether you will be able to maintain the style.
The cuts have been good and the prices are reasonable. I just wish they'd listen to me!!!!
Well, just let me tell you... I typically cut my hair about once every three years so that I can donate it in the memory of a friend. (Always donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths rather than Lock of Love!) For various reason, I needed to style it, so I went to Allure Salon, about two years after my last cut, where I was assigned to Wendy. In the end, and the subject of a different review, my hair probably most resembled that of Inigo Montoya. It was not a good look. After going back in the next day to see if she could fix it at all, I gave up. After doing some online research, I basically went across the street to Brianna. Brianna talked to me more, ran her hands through my hair more, then proceeded to spend twice as much time and charged about a third less. My hair still doesn't look like I wanted because Brianna's skills don't include the magic of uncutting hair, but she made me feel SO much better. My hair feels smoother and lays more evenly around my face. I will be back!
Wondering why it's sometimes so hard to be heard. Got a haircut today with a new stylist at this salon I've been going to for a year now. I told her I have Respiratory issues so don't want her to use sprays and smelly products. She said ok. When it came time to dry my hair, she asked my typical routine, and I told her I often bathe at night and in morning just wet my hair and comb with my fingers and just air dry. So she grabbed a spray, mousse, then a texturing product and spent 30 minutes using brushes and making my hair all fluffy, just the way I don't like it, and used 3 products. Fortunately I live 1/4 Mile away and could wash my hair before the stink made me sick. This has happened every time I've been there - about 8 times with 2 different stylists!!! What is so hard to understand about my request????
I have found that the time spent in consultation before going to a new stylist is the most important part of the relationship. Latoya asks great questions: how much time do you want to spend on your hair? what bothers you? problem areas? how long between cuts? what products do you use, and how do you care for your hair now? what do you expect from your style?
As for the general atmosphere of the place, it is bustling and interesting. The woman beside me got a fantastic short 'do, and everyone leaving looked happy and we'll cared for.
Latoya at Ego Hour on Jonestown Rd is an excellent colorist (so I've heard), and skilled at styling.
I was impressed enough that I am going back to have my hair colored blue and green ombre with Danielle, who spent a LOT of time explaining hair dye to this newbie.
Did a good job of cutting my 2 daughters hair
Very pleased with my hair cut. Thanks, Carolyn, you're the best!
