For the most part I buy the majority of my clothes at Belks but I have 2 complaints....first complaint is the dressing rooms are always a wreck with clothes left in there by previous shoppers and the second complaint is when you're finished trying on clothes there isn't a rack outside the dressing room to hang clothes on that you don't want to purchase and you have to search where to hang them back.
I took my son to the men's shoe department. He has had 4 foot and 2 leg operations in the last 3-3/4 years, due to a lawn mower accident. He is missing 2 toes on his right foot. Dave was the salesperson on duty. He spent nearly 2-1/2 hours searching and bringing out various shoes which he thought might be comfortable for my son. We were blessed that we were the only customers in the area for nearly all of that time! Thank you to Belk for hiring patient and caring salespeople!
So, my brother from Mississippi gave my 90 year old mother a nice coat for Christmas, but she didn't like the way it fit. She asked me to take it back for her. I went to Belks to return. There were 3 salesclerks standing at the register with a small pile of returns they were restocking ( I guess). I stood there no less than 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged my existence. FINALLY, one of them said "can I help you?" I told them I would like to return this coat. They said can we have the credit card you put it on. I explained that my brother in Mississippi purchased it. She immediately said, "well, I can't give you cash back, only a gift card. Her rude tone combined with the long wait set the stage for a hostile exchange. I said that's fine. She then said would you like a giftcard to which I replied "do I have a choice"? She processed the giftcard and asked me what name to put it under. I said "I guess Bill, since he is the one who bought it". She then said "why didn't you just put it back on his credit card"? My reply, "because you didn't ask me". I then said that would be better. Her reply "it's too late, Ive already done the giftcard". Then to make this experience even worse, she handed me a paper and said "here, sign this", turned around and never acknowledged me again. Not a thank you, not anything. Just the rudest service I have had in a long time. Thank God there are still Walmarts on every corner!
I don't know what has happened at belks. I have been a belks customer for 41 years, up until the last 2 years. I got my first credit card, a belks card, at age 24, and I'm now 65. I loved belks in concord, nc, then I moved here and have been shopping at belks at hanes mall since 1985. My mom and I loved it she would visit me from Virginia and we would shop there and we always ate at that little cafe on the basement floor of belks. After she died in 1991, I shopped there and ate at the cafe to try to relive our memories. I have many good memories of shopping at belks, buying Christmas presents and also beautiful clothes for myself. The service was good, and they gift wrapped the presents. Such nice employees then. Well, they closed the cafe several years ago. I noticed the service has been declining these past few years and I haven't been in 2 years, until today. I cut the 20% coupon out of the Sunday paper and I thought I would go Christmas shopping and hopefully have a halfway decent experience like those I had in the past. Was I ever wrong! no service, no employees. Where the heak were they? Here I was, wandering through the store for awhile, with no employees in sight. I went ahead and looked in the men's department for my husband some things. I found a shirt and searched for someone to take my money. After 20 minutes, I found a lady. She wouldn't let me use my coupon. She obviously hated her job. I then decided not to buy it. Then I asked her about gift wrapping and gift boxes, she said "gone.". In other words, higher prices for products made in china, can't usecoupon, no employees, no gift wrapping, no boxes, no service. I couldnt believe it. So so sad. I left and I'm not going back. What has this world come to???
I just remembered why I quit shopping at Belk today. It took forever to find anything that fit well and looked good. Then when after waiting in line I find out that nothing was really on sale or the prices weren’t updated in the system and then none of the coupons were accepted for the items I selected. I left everything at the counter and walked out! This place is like school on Saturday. No class!!
